What Does It Mean To Pray In Spirit?

23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. John 4:23

To pray in spirit means to:

Recognize that God is spirit.

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:24

Know that yourself is also a spirit.

You are always in the presence of God, just as you are always in the presence of the sun. The way sunlight surrounds you is the way that the Holy Spirit surrounds you always. You are always moving in the Holy Spirit. When you sleep, you sleep inside the Holy Spirit. When you eat, you are eating within the Holy Spirit. Whatever you do or say, you do or say inside the Holy Spirit.

Understand that time and distance do not separate you from God, just as you are not separated from the sun. The sun reaches and surrounds you by its sunlight. In fact, you live and move about within the sun, just as the insects that swarm about an electric bulb are both outside the bulb and at the same are inside the light of the bulb. Therefore, understand that time and space are not barriers between you and God.

There is a steady communication link between you and God. Always.

The moment you start praying is the very moment God hears you. Even before you say what you want, He knows.

"It shall come to pass
That before they call, I will answer;
And while they are still speaking, I will hear.
Isaiah 65:24

That means that you pray once and God hears you twice.

You do not necessarily need to go the church, mountain, valley, wilderness or seashore to pray before God hears you. Pray at the place where you are. These places are very good, if you choose to go there. But, know it that God hears you wherever and whenever you pray to Him.

When you pray, believe and know that God has heard and answered.

Praying in spirit also means praying in truth. This means that your thought, word and action are the same. Your attention is in the prayer, and that what you say is really your intention.

When you pray, place your attention on God. Do not let your heart or mind think of any other things.

To pray in spirit means you pray in quiet places, where noise and distractions do not disturb you.

Jesus said that you should pray in spirit. Yes, do so and more. Today, I tell you to pray in spirit, in truth and in love. Do not spend your time praying for yourself only. Pray for others, even those you do not know.

Pray for your friends.
Pray for your enemies.
Pray for your school.
Pray for your company.
Pray for your church.
Pray for your nation.
Pray for all.

To pray in spirit means to pray silently, for silent prayers sounds like thunder and lightning in the presence of God. Your thoughts are seen, heard and clear like the spoken words.
